After I stayed away from social media all weekend, an act of self-care I try to abide by often, I returned to one of the sweetest messages I have ever received. Not to diminish it in anyway, I probably felt the same way last week and the week before that because you, my darling readers and cooks kindly send me very thoughtful and intricate emails and messages, so powerful that they pull me out of some emotional slumps as this one did. Not only did Karen cook recipes from Africana for 10 of her friends, she read the introductions to each recipe, taking her guests on what they described as an “African Safari by our guide Lerato”. Her friends sent her a sweet message expressing their gratitude, which she shared with me. This was my dream as I wrote Africana. I wanted you to feel me holding your hands as we travel and cook together one dish at a time. I am overjoyed whenever I read your messages. It means a lot to me, personally, and to Africana's success.

What’s on?
I’ll be at the National Geographic Traveller Food Festival in London, on Saturday, 15th July 2023. I'll be interviewed at 15.45pm in the Speakers’ Corner and I'll also be signing books at Waterstones. On Sunday, 16th July 2023, I’ll be at Pub in the Park Brighton, cooking in the fire pit.
