Africana is ONE today! Can you believe it?!

On 29th September 2022 my debut cookbook, Africana, was published by HarperCollins. Technically, she is only about 6 months in the US! A girl can give herself flowers, right?

After almost 2 years of us surviving covid, after a number of panic attacks and tear storms, after many years of pushing through what felt like insurmountable challenges, I became a published author.

After over 7 or 8 years (I lose count after every year) of writing what would now be this beautifully bound book of stories and recipes from a great continent and people, Africana was shared with the world. With golden plantains, sumptuous soups, mothered stews, tamarind glazed roasts, charred vegetables, sugar crusted peanuts, hibiscus filled cakes and many more! With recipes, we have cooked together across the world, on television, on the radio, or via your computer screens, from the UK to Mexico, from India to Tanzania, Australia to Nigeria.

You have welcomed me into your homes through Africana, and I will eternally be thankful. Thank you for being here, for buying the book, for cooking the recipes and sharing the love, our stories, and our vibrant and varied cultures with the world.

This road less travelled has been daunting, exciting, and necessary work to educate, inspire and celebrate some of the world’s greatest foods. Like I wrote in the book, there is a fire in me that burns so passionately, and this is just the beginning. Thank you for sticking with me. I could not have come this far without you!
